Shahid in Rock On! like film

April 30, 2009 Leave a comment

Remember actor Parmeet Sethi? He was the Punjabi brat in most
acclaimed film of our times DDLJ. He was the one to whom Kajol was
supposed to get married. Now the actor after remaining dormant for a
long time is now all set to turn a director and is making his
directorial debut with Yash Raj Banner.

Parmeet’s upcoming flick resembles Rock On! The story line is set
alike and is about a Punjabi band.

Parmeet is quite excited about his directorial debut and is currently
looking for an apt title. The film is based on a group of 5-6 people
who form a band for Punjabi rock music. While Shahid Kapur and Anushka
have already been finalised to play pivotal roles, Parmeet has
also signed Veer Das and Indian Idol contestant Meiyang Chang as lead
actors for the film.

The film is based on the life and music of the rock band, and how the
music changes their lives and eventually brings them together again.

The young brigade of Bollywood

When Imran
Khan and Ranbir Kapoor became the youngest hosts in the 54-year long history of the Filmfare Awards, there were inklings of a new world order that was emerging. And going by the accolades that followed for the duo, it appears that the audience is already cheering the big-bang arrival of the young turks of the Hindi film industry.

In fact, with the debut of each star from Deepika Padukone to Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor over the past few years, marketing of films has reached crescendo levels — though, of course, all four have come out trumps for themselves from their debuts, with Deepika and Imran even hitting a jackpot each with Om Shanti Om and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa.

Padukone, of course, had the advantage of having SRK as her launch co-star and producer. Along with these, there were a host of other under-30 actors who made their debuts — from Neil Nitin Mukesh to Anoushka Sharma, Genelia D’Souza, Praetik Babbar and Sikander Kher to Harman Baweja, and Kangana, who has more than a few films and hits under her belt.

Collectively, across 24 films in the past few years, films starring these young stars have seen net collections of Rs 616 crore. The top rankers among these are Ranbir and Imran (though Shahid Kapur, under 30 but with many more years in the industry, is also in the top three) who are being eagerly wooed by almost all film companies.

Shahid is raw and rusty in Kaminey

Kaminey, well the name is abusive but it is the name of the much anticipated film that stars Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. The movie is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj.

Shahid Kapoor’s double role in ‘Kaminey’, a much guarded secret by the film-makers has now become the USP(Unique Special Proposition) of the film! The adjoining snap has Shahid Kapoor in one of his most likeable avatars with Miss Chopra, which has been shot inside a train.

Shahid Kapoor will be seen as someone who is raw, rigid and sturdy! The locations in which the film has shot have been kept as rustic as possible, which includes local stations and junkyards! Word also has it that in this film, Priyanka plays an voluble Maharashtrian girl, who believes in making herself heard.

‘Kaminey’ also marks the ‘debut’ of Amole Gupte as the ruthless villain.

Shahid’s fanatic fan

April 23, 2009 12 comments

Shahid Kapoor has a huge fan following all across the globe and now he gets into news because of a fan of him who is from Iran.

An Iranian lady Pirhana Sahila who ran away from her home (like in hindi films) in Iran to meet Shahid Kapoor was sent back to her homeland by the Iranian Consulate was repotedly sent back. However, it now comes to light that Pirhana got an oppurtunity to meet her favourite actor at his home. Shahid not only made time to see her, but offered her with medical and financial help.

What happened was that Pirhana landed up at Shahid’s building (Raj Classic) a couple of weeks ago and stayed outside his gates. It was the residents of the apartment complex, who informed him about her presence. He waved out to her a few times, thinking that the acknowledgment would be enough to make her leave. But it didn’t work.

Pirhana continued to be a constant presence outside his compound. She appeared a bit emotionally unstable and so a concerned Shahid sent down food, and water to her with a member of his staff.

Shahid finally arranged for some financial aid for her and got in touch with the Iranian Consulate. Shahid refused to lodge a police complaint to avoid publicity.

Pirhana finally left last week though she created a scene before boarding the flight as she didn’t want to leave without Shahid. After a call from the actor, the Iranian embassy swung into action and she was sent back home.

Shahid’s close friend and director Ahmed Khan admits that Shahid helped out Pirhana, “He’s very kind-hearted but he hates anything being written about his personal life and his kind deeds so he doesn’t talk about it.”

All’s well that ends well Shahid!!!

Shahid evolves as an actor

Well he has played that chocolate boy or boy next door in majority of his films.

A majority of the films of Shahid Kapoor have also been hardcore commercial films but it could be called a co-incidence of sorts that the films which are set to release in 2009 are not the usual commercial stuff that we expect from Shahid.

Leading the way is Vishal Bhardwaj’s KAMINEY, which from the very first glimpse looks like a typical Vishal Bhardwaj dark-noir film. Shahid says that he is very impressed with Vishal’s treatment and handling of the subject, as its very imaginative and away from any league. Adding that he admires Vishal for his clear thinking, Shahid admits that working with Vishal has certainly help him evolve as an actor.

Talking about Ahmed Khan‘s PAATHSHAALA, he says that it too is a very different kind of film, though an out an out entertainer. He essays the role of a music teacher, and it’s a guest appearance which he did for friend Ahmed Khan. In fact, the audience would find something different even in Yash Raj’s untitled film with Rani Mukherjee.

Well, seems like Shahid has started enterprising as far as his career is concerned and we, the audience are more than happy as we would get to see a versatile Shahid throughout 2009.v

No hope for Milenge Milenge

April 17, 2009 Leave a comment

Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor starrer Satish Kaushik’s Milenge Milenge is one jinxed project.

Post 36 China Town, B Town filmmakers wanted to cash in on the popularity of real-life couple and the two even signed films. But mainly due to their break-up after Jab We Met, those films are not seeing light.

Similar is the case with Boney Kapoor Productions Film Milenge Milenge. Kareena however rubbishes the rumor and says, “Shahid and I are professionals. In fact, I want Milenge Milenge to be revived which I had signed with Shahid. It is a beautiful film.”

However Bebo did not reveal when she will complete dubbing for the film.

Milenge Milenge is based on Hollywood flick Serendipity and shows a kiddie Shahid Kapoor with a plump Kareena (This is how they looked way back in 2004).

Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra had tried to keep it away from the media about their relationship in spite of their every step being watched.

Priyanka falls ill and Shahid comes to see his lady-love, forgetting that the scribes are waiting to get a scoop out of them. Shahid’s parents visit the ailing Priyanka and come to know how much their son love her and finally give their approval.

It surely seems like a good script. Well, it is a cut out from a real life love story. Shahid and Priyanka have not made their relationship public in spite of the speculations doing the rounds that they are more than just friends

Even before the news of their ‘secret date over coffee‘ in a cafe has died down, they have exposed their affection for each other one more time. Shahid was with Priyanka most of the time when she was in the hospital for exhaustion and stomach ache. Surprisingly, Shahid’s parents Pankaj Kapoor and Supriya Pathak Kapoor also visited the actress at the hospital, giving a hint that they approve of their relationship.

Priyanka was in hospital from last Saturday to Monday, for exhaustion and stomach infection that had taken a toll on her and she had fainted on sets.

Shahid instrumental in Jiah Khan’s loss

April 13, 2009 Leave a comment

Jiah Khan lost on her role in Ken Ghosh‘s film recently and was quickly replaced too.

Well it was expected and that was so because co-star Shahid Kapoor was not much enamoured with Jiah.

The fact is that the two did not really see eye to eye on many issues. With good friend Ken Ghosh as the film’s director, Shahid is believed to have made his point to Ghosh that Jiah was not up to the mark where the role in the film was concerned.

Ghosh may have ignored him for a while but it seems that a point was reached when he could not ignore Shahid’s issues with Jiah. It is believed that he spoke to the production house and Jiah is out of the movie. The actress who makes her way in is none other Genelia D’Souza.\

It was obvious that after Jiah was thrown out, the film-maker needed a replacement as fast as possible. The role required a young, vivacious looking face. Hence it did not take long for UTV and Ghosh to narrow down on Genelia. The actress has just recently stepped in for Vidya Balan in David Dhawan’s Hook Yaa Crook opposite John Abraham and now she comes in for Jiah.

Needless to say, Shahid is now mighty thrilled with Genelia being a part of the project. Incidentally, despite Ken being Shahid’s friend, this film is still to be completed while other Shahid starrers like Vishal Bharadwaj’s Kaminey and Yash Raj’s Haddipa are on their way to completion.

Guess, Ghosh is paying the price of being close to Shahid.
